Postdoctoral Scientist Position: Ultra-efficient fiber lasers
We have recently invented ablation-cooled laser-material removal (Nature, 2016), which is accessed with ultrafast pulse repetition rates in the range of multi-GHz, in contrast to the commonly used kHz repetition rates. We achieved 10-100 times higher ablation efficiency in comparison to traditional ultrafast ablation.
Ablation-cooled material processing motivates a radically different laser technology, for which fiber lasers are ideal. We are looking for an experienced laser scientist to work on an entirely novel laser architecture that is unlike existing ultrafast lasers.

We happily involve undergraduate students in our research projects. Students with strong theoretical interests, or practical knowledge of or desire to learn numerical simulations, analog and/or FPGA/DSP electronics, and mechanical design are encouraged to apply.
