Science for Kids

LET’S START OUR JOURNEY BY UNDERSTANDING THE SCIENCE!

We want you to think and question about some usual points before starting the journey. Don’t forget that if you don’t question, you cannot do science.

How about you look out from the window of your room and think about what you see? Can you recognize there is a continuity in nature?

Close your eyes and think about the last thing you ate, can you imagine its taste?

Where do you start to find the answer to the puzzle that a friend asked?

Have you ever seen a magic show before? We are sure that you have encountered many illusions that you did not understand when you were watching it. Do you think we come across such illusions in nature?

People who write code and develop software on a computer are called computer engineers or software engineers. So what do the people we call scientists do?

Actually, you have taken the first step of the journey of science by starting to observe and question what you know and to answer the questions above. We congratulate you because many scientists started their own journey by taking this very step. To question what we see around us and to have an idea about the progress of its change is a must. So what do we need most to run original ideas? (There is a hint in the second question) Of course, we need our imagination. Understanding the behind the scenes of nature that everyone can see and even be a part of and improving it cannot be achieved without imagination. During these observations, we can come across things that we wonder about why and how they work. And we approach them, just as we approached the puzzle that our friend asked. First of all, we decide what kind of information we have and what we can figure out using this information. Then, we explore how we can build upon our knowledge to get to the answer. But as we have seen in a magician’s show, we may encounter many things that may mislead us or require us to look from a different angle to see its true colors. Therefore, not being blindly attached to what we know and see from other perspectives is one of the most important points of progress.

So far we understood how scientists think and what they do. Scientists are people who observe, question, produce ideas, build upon the knowledge of other scientists and do all these things systematically. So everything you see through the window of your room is actually a part of science. The systematic explanation and development of it all is actually science itself.

As you know very well and often hear, science has many different branches. If you want to learn more about these, keep reading us. Also, don’t forget to look out the window and think about what’s happening outside when most of us are quarantining in our houses. If you have any questions, share them with us and we can search the answers together using the methods we have just learned.
